TED is a non-profit organization devoted for spreading ideas, usually in the form of a short and powerful talk of 18 minutes or less. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged. This global community of TED welcomes people from various walks of life and culture who seek to have a deeper understanding of the world.

In its annual event TED reaches out to the world's leading thinkers and doers, who then come together and share ideas on technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business, development. TED talks can really change the perspective and makes us understand a lot of things in a way we haven’t experienced before.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience and instils ideas, imagination and innovative thoughts among the audience. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized ted event.

At a TEDx event, viewers can expect TED-style talks where video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group setting. The TED Conference provides structure and general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized and subject to certain rules and regulations.

IIM Sirmaur organized its maiden TEDx event on 4th November, 2018 with the theme ‘Resurgam’, latin for “I shall rise again.” The exclusive invite only event featured a group of speakers from wide-ranging fields and diverse backgrounds touching upon topics of women empowerment, societal labels and struggles of life to sustainable waste management efforts in the Himalayas and revival of the study of Cicadas in India. The five speakers were Yogesh Kumar, founder and Director of Even Cargo; Kamalika Deka, HR head, Jubilant Foodworks; Vivek Sarkar, Wildlife Biologist; Kartiki Bhatnagar, Blogger and Vitiligo Awareness Activist and Avinash Pratap Singh, Chief Operations Officer of Waste Warriors.

TEDxIIMSIRMAUR is a collaboration between Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur and the TEDx community. The 4th edition of TEDxIIMSirmaur is themed “Astitva: Meri Pehchan'' and will feature eloquent orators and eminent personalities from diverse fields of expertise, expressing their past experiences, current projects, and future visions to promote inquiry, innovation and critical discussion. We're excited to be a TEDx licensee and are reaching out to a select group of educational and cultural organisations that are committed to the power of ideas to support our TEDx event.

The theme of our event is “Astitva: Meri Pehchan".

Its literal translation is Existence. Nevertheless, it draws a deeper meaning, "Identity", and what meaning does existence hold without Identity?

As Erik Erikson said, “In the social jungle of human existence, there is no feeling of being alive without a sense of identity”, one's identity is a driving factor of differentiation amongst everyone.

How we identify ourselves is a self-representation of our culture, interests, relationships, and efficacy in doing the things that matter to us. Most of us are struggling to navigate through the process of finding oneself. Burdened by the expectations of our loved ones, we follow what path is laid for us. But few brilliant personalities find their "Astitva" by choosing their own path in the journey of life.

We want everyone to search for their "Astitva". Through showcasing the journey of our speakers, we wish to give everyone the motivation to respond to their inner calling and take action. We want to set them on a quest to search for their true self, not in the outside world, but within themselves
